A bar by the fire,a spa for the morning.

Haute-Savoie, France45°51′ N 6°37′ E

Most ski hotels pick a side. Some are built for après-ski, with a loud bar and a heavy dinner, others for recovery, with a spa where nobody raises their voice. Lodge Park, in the centre of Megève, refuses to choose. By day it is hushed and chic, and by night the bar turns festive. Downstairs, a longevity spa waits to undo the evening before. Some of the cocktails even come laced with collagen, which may be the most honest compromise in the Alps.

For skiers, the first question is the walk to the lifts, and the answer is short. The hotel stands in a small park right in the village, steps from the Chamois gondola, with ski rental at the foot of the gondola. It is not ski-in, ski-out, but in Megève few people mind. This has always been a resort of long lunches rather than steep couloirs, and the village itself, with its boutiques and restaurants within walking distance, is half the reason to stay here.

Inside, the century-old building plays a trapper's lodge crossed with an English club, all logs and raw stone, with tartan and saddle leather to soften it. A renovation completed in 2025 has left twenty-nine rooms and suites, and the choice now comes down to space and fire. The Deluxe rooms are compact, at twenty-five square metres, while the Prestige suites bring a fireplace and a separate lounge. Higher up, the Lodge Cabins sit under the roof with the church tower in the window, and some of the Executive suites have a private Nordic bath on the terrace.

The bar follows the clock. In daylight it serves brunch, then cake by the fire in deep leather armchairs. Once the lifts close, it fills with locals as well as guests and the music starts, so a table is worth booking. Dinner at Beef Lodge is a proper steakhouse, with T-bone grilled in an Argentine oven, alongside meats cooked low and slow for more than seventy hours.

The other half of the bargain lies downstairs, in a spa of a thousand square metres. It has a twelve-metre pool and eleven treatment rooms, and for the brave an ice grotto and cryotherapy. The longevity corner goes further still, with a hyperbaric chamber and light therapy, while a gym covers the more traditional route to feeling younger. Once the skis are off, the sensible order is the ice grotto first and the bar second. In summer, an outdoor pool takes over.

Couples and groups of friends who come to Megève as much for the evenings as for the snow get the most out of the house. Bigger parties can rent the five-bedroom chalet in the grounds, which has a pool of its own. Evenings downstairs get lively, and the spa is shared with day visitors. The hotel opens from December to March and again from July to early September, and Geneva airport is a little over an hour away by road.

In most ski resorts, the detox begins at home, a week after the holiday. At Lodge Park it begins one floor below the bar, which makes it remarkably easy to do both on the same night.

Since 1927

The hotel opened in 1927 as the Hôtel du Parc, became the Parc des Loges and then Lodge Park, changing name and décor over the decades without leaving its place in the heart of the village.

The Lodge Bar

The bar keeps the hotel's clock. At lunch it serves brunch: casserole eggs, ham croissants, avocado toast. In the afternoon it moves to leather sofas by the fire, with mulled wine, pecan pie and gingerbread made with fir honey. After skiing come cocktails in Tiki glasses, the house Ice Lodge among them, while an indie-folk band plays covers.

Beef Lodge

The steakhouse is a room of log walls, warm hangings, trophies and skins, with a butcher's display from which cuts can be chosen. Meat is grilled, smoked over different woods, marinated or cooked at low temperature for more than seventy hours, then finished in an Argentine oven: T-bone, tomahawk flambéed with Jack Daniel's Honey, picanha with béarnaise.

The spa pool

The heated indoor pool measures 12 by 12.5 metres, with an XXL jacuzzi and an indoor beach of loungers beside it. Around them lie two saunas, a steam room, an ice room, a Kneipp bath and a salt room, and further rooms for cryotherapy, a hyperbaric chamber and red-light therapy. Hotel guests share the spa with day-pass holders and members.

A suite with a fire

A living room with its own fireplace begins at the Prestige Suite, 39 m² and south-facing, with a balcony over the village; logs, glacier stones and Scottish fabrics set its tone. The Executive Suite adds Ralph Lauren fabrics, a dressing room and two balconies, and the Deluxe Suite looks both ways, over the village and the mountains.

Why this one

  1. The gondola across the square.

    Ski passes wait at reception.

  2. Fire in the evening.

Cocktails, then a steak at Beef Lodge.

  3. Ice room, then pool.

A 1,000 m² spa downstairs from the bar.

The Edit Notes

What a booking site will not tell you.

  1. Choose the room by its fire.

The Deluxe Double Room is 25 m², with a shower and no fireplace. The Lodge Cabin, 43 m² on the fifth and top floor, is reached by a few steps and looks over the rooftops to the bell tower; it has a bath and shower but no balcony. A fire begins with the Prestige Suite, 39 m² and south-facing, with a separate living room and balcony. The Executive Suite with Nordic bath swaps the balconies for a terrace with the bath on it.

  2. Book Beef Lodge with the room.

In winter the steakhouse serves dinner only, every evening of the season, and the hotel itself advises booking ahead; its line is separate from room reservations. The bar is the hotel's lively side: cocktails, a live indie-folk band and a crowd at cocktail hour, so a quiet evening is better spent in a suite with a fireplace. In summer Beef Lodge moves out into the gardens and serves lunch as well as dinner.

  3. Families, within the hotel's own limits.

The hotel says plainly that it is not specifically recommended for families, because of the lively bar, and points them to its sister hotels in Megève. There are no connecting rooms and no extra beds; suites take up to two children on the living-room sofa bed. Children under sixteen may use the pool only during the day, with an adult, and from late afternoon it is reserved for adults; the saunas, steam room, ice room and gym are for sixteen and over.

  4. Two seasons, and a car to the door.

Lodge Park opens for winter, from December into spring, and for summer, from July to the end of August or early September; it is closed in autumn, so check exact dates before planning. The hotel stands in the pedestrian zone, but cars may drive up to the entrance and park underground on two levels. Geneva airport is about an hour away; the concierge arranges transfers, and lift passes wait at reception, with rental gear at the partner shop beside the gondola.

The price question

The money buys a central address in Megève, a short walk from the gondola, with a steakhouse, a bar and a large spa under one roof, so an evening needs no car and no taxi. It does not buy quiet at cocktail hour, a room that sleeps a family without a suite, or a spa kept for residents alone. The real comparison is a chalet in the village plus a spa pass and dinners out.

What the money buys

  • A walk of a few minutes across the village square to the Chamois gondola.
  • Spa access with a 12-metre indoor pool, ice room and saunas, included for hotel guests.
  • Dinner at Beef Lodge and drinks by the fire without leaving the building.

What it leaves out

  • A fireplace below the Prestige Suite, or a bath in the Deluxe Double Room.
  • Connecting rooms or extra beds for families.
  • A spa reserved for residents: day-pass holders and members share it.

Who it suits

Book it for three or four winter nights, for couples or friends who want après-ski, a steak dinner and the spa without a car, with Beef Lodge reserved at the same time as the room. A family wanting connecting rooms and an early, quiet evening is better placed elsewhere in Megève.

Who should spend elsewhere

  • La Bastide de Marie

An eighteenth-century farmhouse between Ménerbes and Bonnieux among the vines of the Domaine de Marie, with 14 rooms and suites, two outdoor pools and a small Pure Altitude spa.

  • Maison Bauchart

Ten suites in a nineteenth-century mansion on rue Quentin-Bauchart in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, with a basement spa with plunge pool, sauna and steam room.
