Ski hotels of the Alps

29 hotels5 places

A ski hotel is judged twice a day: in the morning, by how quickly it puts you on the snow, and in the late afternoon, by what is waiting when you come off it. The best manage both without fuss, with a ski room by the door, boots dry by morning and a fire already lit.

They are gathered here resort by resort. Courchevel 1850, where several of the great houses stand on the pistes themselves; Val d'Isère and Tignes, high and long-seasoned; Méribel and Val Thorens elsewhere in the Three Valleys; Megève and Saint-Gervais for an older, gentler kind of winter; La Clusaz; and Chamonix, for the serious mountains.

Where they are.
